Itinerary

North / South Island: 15D / 16N (Auckland to Queenstown) Only available in summer from October until April.

Day 1: Auckland

Arrive in Auckland and uplift your rental car before driving to your hotel for one night in the city. There is lots to do in The City of Sails, from harbour cruises to driving up volcanic cones to view some of the most spectacular views of Auckland. Spend the evening soaking up the great nightlight or one of the great restaurants on offer.

Day 2: Auckland

Travel over on the short ferry ride today to Rangitoto Island, and extinct volcano in Auckland’s Harbour. Hike to the top for spectacular views before returning back to the city to continue your adventure.

Day 3: Auckland – Waitomo - Rotorua

This morning, travel down to the famous Waitomo Caves where you will do the adreanlin fuel Black Abyss Tour. This 5 hour tour includes abseiling, climbing and cave tubing beneath the glow worm caves. Continue onto Rotorua for the evening where you will cap you day of with the very authentic Maori cultural experience and Hangi meal at Tamaki Heritage Village.

Day 4: Rotorua – Tongariro National Park

Visit the most famous geothermal area and Maori cultural centre in Rotorua, Te Puia. Then it is off for a leisurely drive through to Lake Taupo and onto the Tongariro National Park, the home of Mt Ruapehu one of New Zealand’s only two active volcanoes. Have a good nights sleep as it is any early start in the morning.

Day 5: Tongariro Crossing

Up at 5am for a quick shuttle ride to the start of the Tongariro Crossing. Your 19km 6hour hike will take you across some of the most spectacular landscapes on offer in the North Island. At the end of the walk you will be transferred back to Discovery Lodge for a well earned rest.

Day 6: Tongariro - Wellington

Today you will drive South on State Highway 1 through to Wellington. You will travel on the desert road the through the green beauty of heartland New Zealand , Manawatu. Once settled into your Wellington hotel stroll the streets of Wellington, visit Te Papa Museum or indulge in the great café and culture scene.

Day 7: Wellington – Picton – Kaiteriteri Abel Tasman National Park

Drop you car off in the morning at the depot at the ferry terminal before boarding the Inter Islander Ferry for a scenic trip across Cook Straight into Queen Charlotte Sound and onto Picton. Once arriving in the South Island you will uplift your rental car from the depot and drive onto New Zealand’s sunshine capital, Nelson then through into the Abel Tasman National Park

Day 8: Abel Tasman National Park

You will join a Wilson Cruise in the Abel Tasman National Park today to Tonga Quarry Beach, where you will then take a 2 hour walk through the park along the coastline through to Bark Bay the Medlands beach where you will boat will take you back to Kaiteriteri.

Day 9: Kaiteriteri – Franz Josef Glacier

After exploring Nelson, it is through to the West Coast on State Highway 6 to head down this rugged coastline to the famous rocks and blow holes of Punakaiki. Then you will continue south down to Franz Josef Glacier, where you will be staying for the night.

Day 10: Franz Josef – Queenstown

After viewing the spectacular glacier or you may want to take in Heli Hike experience on the icefall. Then an incredibly scenic drive awaits you as you travel down through the Haast Pass onto into Wanaka where you could stop for lunch of afternoon tea, then it is off to the adventure capital of New Zealand, Queenstown.

Day 11: Queenstown

Your options are limitless today, so why not take in a bungy jump, jet boat up the Shotover river or just enjoy the great shopping and eateries. Be sure to take the gondola to the top of Bobs Peak, and if you are feeling daring, mountain bike back down the hill again on one of the various tracks catering for all abilities.

Day 12: Queentown – Te Anau – Milford Sound

Drive through to Milford Sound today along one of the most scenic roads in New Zealand. Pass the Mirror Lakes, through the Homer Tunnel and down into the very beautiful and remote Milford Sound.

Day 13: Milford Sound Kayak & Milford Track

Start with a scenic paddle around Deepwater Basin then up to Sand?y Point. Enjoy an easy walk through pristine rainforest. Just you and your guide make this “after hours” Milford Track experience a must-do. The Milford Track is arguably New Zealand’s most famous walk. The 53 kilometre journey begins at the head of Lake Te Anau and finishes with the grand finale of Milford Sound. During this adventure we start with a scenic paddle around Deepwater Basin then enjoy an easy stroll along the final stages of the track through lush green rainforest.

Day 14: Milford Sound – Queenstown

Travel back through to Te Anau, and back to Queenstown where you will drop off your rental car at the airport before checking in for your flight home.
